Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about our services and procedures.

What should I expect during a colonoscopy?
A colonoscopy is a safe outpatient procedure that typically takes 30-60 minutes. You will receive sedation for comfort. The doctor uses a thin, flexible tube with a camera to examine your colon. Most patients can return to normal activities the next day.
How do I prepare for an upper endoscopy (EGD)?
You will need to fast for at least 8 hours before the procedure. Avoid eating or drinking anything, including water, after midnight the night before. Our office will provide detailed preparation instructions when you schedule your appointment.
Does the doctor accept my insurance?
We accept most major insurance plans including Medicare, Medicaid, and many commercial insurers. Please call our office at (718) 435-3890 to verify your specific coverage before your appointment.
How often should I have a colonoscopy?
For average-risk individuals, screening colonoscopy is recommended starting at age 45, then every 10 years if results are normal. If you have a family history of colon cancer or previous polyps, more frequent screening may be recommended.
What conditions does a gastroenterologist treat?
Gastroenterologists diagnose and treat conditions affecting the digestive system including acid reflux (GERD), ulcers, IBS, inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's and colitis), liver disease, hemorrhoids, and colon polyps or cancer.
Do you offer telehealth appointments?
Yes, we offer telehealth consultations for follow-up visits and certain conditions. Please call our office to determine if a telehealth visit is appropriate for your needs.
